IPPT Requirements, standards and Passing Score

If you are a Singaporean citizen then you know about ippt. It is a yearly fitness test that is mandatory for you. We will talk about what is ippt, what you need to do and you can prepare for the ippt test. The standards of ippt are designed by the Singapore armed forces(SAF)to provide a better way to assess the fitness level of all service members . These standards apply on NSFs, nsman and regulars but the scoring and passing criteria is different based on age group and gender.

What is Ippt?

IPPT stands for Individual Physical Proficiency Test.

  • It is for safety, ensuring every person is fit to handle their duties.
  • It provides a small push to stay in shape, which benefits your long-term health.
  • Performing well in the IPPT test allows you to earn a nice cash incentive.

Three Parts of the IPPT Test

The standard of ippt is very simple. It has only three stations. Your goal is to get maximum points in each station, then all the points added for your final score.

  • Push-ups: You can earn up to 25 points in this category.
  • Sit-ups: This section also allows a maximum of 25 points.
  • 2.4 km Run: The run contributes the highest score, offering up to 50 points.

Passing Criteria

Silver≥ 75 points
Pass with Incentive (NSmen only)≥ 61 points
Pass (NSmen)≥ 51 points
Pass (Active/NSF)≥ 61 points

Common Mistakes People Make During IPPT

You train for months and weeks.you do push-ups, sit-ups and run until you are tired and then you feel ready for the ippt test and get good results . but on the test day your score is low and you feel disappointed.

Mistakes You Make Before the Test

  1. Doing a hard workout before test day is a bad idea. Your muscles will feel tired, and you won’t be able to perform your best. Remember, your body gets stronger when you rest.
  2. Going for the test on an empty stomach is not good. You may feel weak during the run and lose energy quickly. To avoid these mistakes and improve your ippt score, make sure to read our full guide: (IPPT Test guide)
  3. Spend at least 10 minutes before the test doing light jogging and stretching; otherwise, your body won’t be warmed up enough to perform at your best.

Mistakes During the Test

  1. Not going low enough during push-ups. You must go down until your elbows are at a right angle. If you only go halfway down, it is not counted. Keep your body straight. Do not let your hips sag or your buttocks stick up. It is better to do 10 good push-ups than 20 bad ones. Do not start too fast, you will get tired quickly.
  2. During sit-ups, not touching the ground is a common mistake. You must go down until your shoulder blades touch the floor. Do not come up until your elbows touch your knees or thighs. Use your stomach muscles to sit up. Do not pull your head up with your hands.
  3. Running too fast at the start is the biggest mistake. When everyone runs fast, do not follow them. You will use all your energy early and struggle in the last few laps. Wear a light t-shirt and comfortable shorts. A heavy, wet cotton shirt will make you feel hot and slow.
